Human Rights Day Session on “Human Rights Issues and Concerns”

On Human Rights Day, December 10, 2024, the School of Law, MIET, proudly hosted an enriching session on “Human Rights Issues and Concerns” at 2 PM in the Convention Hall, Block-C, MIET. The session featured Hon’ble Judge Ms. Bala Jyoti, Retired Senior Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, as the distinguished resource person.

Session Highlights:

  • Rights of Under-trials and Marginalized Individuals: A discussion on the legal protections and rights afforded to vulnerable groups in society.
  • Environmental Rights: An exploration of the growing significance of environmental rights as part of human rights discourse.
  • Landmark Judgments: Insights into key precedents and landmark judgments in human rights law, drawn from the extensive judicial experience of Hon’ble Judge Ms. Bala Jyoti.

The session’s interactive format allowed students to engage deeply, posing thought-provoking questions about human rights issues and gaining valuable insights from Ms. Bala Jyoti’s personal experiences in adjudicating human rights cases.

This event underscored MIET’s commitment to fostering awareness and understanding of human rights among its students and was a testament to the institution’s dedication to educational excellence and societal impact.

Awareness Session on Issues of Drug Abuse and De-Addiction Schemes/Policies in the State

The School of Law, MIET, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu, organized an Awareness Session on “Issues of Drug Abuse and De-Addiction Schemes/Policies in the State.” Led by Adv. Ifra Nasir, Advocate at J&K High Court and DLSA Panel Member, the session highlighted the causes, impacts, and legal aspects of drug abuse, including the NDPS Act, 1985, and government de-addiction initiatives. Through interactive discussions, participants explored the effectiveness of current laws, societal roles in prevention, and community-led solutions. The event concluded with a call to action for collective responsibility in combating drug abuse.
