1st Intra-Moot Court Competition
The 1st Intra-Moot Court Competition commenced with several rounds of intense debates, where teams presented arguments, analyzed legal precedents, and responded to queries from the judges. Designed to test participants’ ability to think critically, articulate arguments persuasively, and apply legal principles effectively, the competition was a platform for aspiring legal minds to shine.
The Journey Begins
Under the dynamic guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ankur Gupta, Director of MIET, and Prof. (Dr.) Sahil Sawhney, the vision and leadership of these mentors motivated both faculty and students to initiate practical training in the early semesters of their academic curriculum. The competition saw the participation of 11 teams from across all semesters of MIET School of Law (SOL).
Phases of the Competition
- Preliminary Rounds: 11 teams participated, with 6 advancing to the semi-finals.
- Semi-Finals: 6 teams competed, and 2 teams were selected for the final round.
- Final Round: The two finalist teams engaged in a closely contested battle, with the winning team edging out the competition by a mere 9 marks.
The Grand Finale
Held at the Moot Court Room, MIET School of Law, D-Block on April 2, 2024, the final round witnessed a culmination of rigorous preparation, legal acumen, and eloquence. The event brought together aspiring legal minds to engage in simulated courtroom proceedings, demonstrating their advocacy skills and understanding of the law.
The final round was judged by eminent legal personalities: Mr. Sheikh Shakeel Sir, Advocate J&K High Court, Mr. Vasharan Thakur, Advocate J&K High Court, and Prof. (Dr.) Sunita Z. Koul.
Key Highlights
Case Presentation: Both teams showcased a thorough understanding of the facts and legal principles relevant to the moot problem. Their presentations were structured, well-researched, and supported by citations to relevant case law and statutes.
Oral Advocacy: Participants delivered arguments with confidence, clarity, and persuasiveness. They responded effectively to questions from the judges, demonstrating quick thinking and composure under pressure.

Awareness Session on Issues of Drug Abuse and De-Addiction Schemes/Policies in the State
The School of Law, MIET, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu, organized an Awareness Session on “Issues of Drug Abuse and De-Addiction Schemes/Policies in the State.” Led by Adv. Ifra Nasir, Advocate at J&K High Court and DLSA Panel Member, the session highlighted the causes, impacts, and legal aspects of drug abuse, including the NDPS Act, 1985, and government de-addiction initiatives. Through interactive discussions, participants explored the effectiveness of current laws, societal roles in prevention, and community-led solutions. The event concluded with a call to action for collective responsibility in combating drug abuse.
Celebrating Human Rights Day 2024
On Human Rights Day, December 10, 2024, the School of Law at MIET hosted a session on “Human Rights Issues and Concerns” with Hon’ble Judge Ms. Bala Jyoti, Retired Senior Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, as the resource person. The session covered critical topics such as the rights of under-trials, environmental rights, and landmark human rights judgments. Students actively engaged in discussions, gaining insights from Ms. Bala Jyoti’s extensive judicial experience.
