MIET School of Law Hosts Seminar on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) at the Workplace
The MIET School of Law, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and FICCI FLO Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh (JKL), recently organized a significant seminar on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) at the Workplace. The event aimed to raise awareness and provide comprehensive insights into the legal framework surrounding the PoSH Act, with a particular focus on its implementation within educational and professional environments.
The seminar was graced by the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Ms. Bala Jyoti, Special Judge Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases) Jammu & Chairperson of the Gender Sensitization Internal Complaints Committee-1. In her presidential address, she delivered an in-depth analysis of the modernization of India’s legal framework, emphasizing the integration of technology and the need for policy reforms to enhance efficiency, transparency, and fairness in the criminal justice system. Ms. Bala Jyoti also provided profound insights into the legal aspects of the PoSH Act, discussing significant judgments and guidelines, including the landmark Vishakha case. She elaborated on the guidelines and attributes of the PoSH Act, offering students a comprehensive understanding of the Act’s implications and enforcement.
The seminar also featured impactful presentations by Ms. Deepali Arora, Advocate at J&K High Court and Member of DLSA, and Ms. Uma Kapahi, Advocate at J&K High Court, President of the Human Rights Council of J&K, and Member of DALSA. Their sessions highlighted the critical importance of women’s empowerment and safety within educational institutions and workplaces. They underscored the need for robust mechanisms to protect individuals from sexual harassment and discussed practical approaches to fostering safer environments.
Prof. Sunita Zalpuri Koul, Dean of MIET School of Law, provided an in-depth analysis of the PoSH Act, focusing on its legal attributes and practical applications. Her session further enriched the seminar, offering participants a clear understanding of how the Act operates within both educational and professional settings.
